Putney Choral Society is an enthusiastic and committed group,
performing much of the classic choral repertoire but with a wide
selection of contemporary and more unusual material thrown in. We have a close relationship with a choral society in Dunkerque and occasionally go across to France to sing with them.
For our home concerts we join forces with the City Philharmonic
Choral Society. We perform two major concerts each year, in May
and in December, at venues in Wandsworth. In addition
we present an informal summer concert in June.
We currently have approximately 80 active members but are always
looking for new singers in all parts. Choir members have a range
of music-reading ability and are not asked to take an
audition.
Our conductor is the indefatigable Stephen Rhys who provides our
musical direction and also ensures that we never lose our sense
of enjoyment.
We were exceptionally pleased that Stephen Rhys received an MBE
in the Summer 2004 Queen’s Honours list as well deserved
recognition for his considerable contribution to SW London music
making.
