The new term will start on Monday, January 8th at the usual venue. We shall be singing Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, for a concert on May 12th. All new members welcome.
We're taking a week off: there is no rehearsal on Monday October 23rd.
Rehearsals resume the following week, so it's back to normal on Monday October 30th.
The librarians have now taken final orders to purchase scores. If you would like to buy your own copy of the Rutter Requiem please order the following edition:
John Rutter Requiem
Oxford University Press
There are still some copies available to hire.
Copies of The Heavens and the Heart by James Francis Brown will be available to hire from the next rehearsal at £3 per copy. These have been sourced directly from the composer and are not available to buy.
The term will start on Monday September 4th at the usual time and location.
We will be rehearsing two more modern works: The Heavens and the Heart by James Francis Brown, which was composed in 2016, and John Rutter's Requiem, which was composed in 1985.
The concert is scheduled for December 9th. It will be back at our normal concert venue, St. Paul's church in Southfields.
As usual, the choir is smaller and will rehearse some lighter pieces through the Summer, starting May 15th and culminating in an informal concert on July 3rd. The repertoire includes Vaughan Williams, Gershwin and others.
It's a good opportunity to give singing a go, so come along and try it out. Subscriptions for those joining the term after our May concert are lower: £35 full, £25 concessions and £10 students.
These are now due and the rates for the full term through to July are unchanged from those on the Joining page, which also describes how to pay.
However, the rate is reduced if you will not be singing after our May concert. In that case, rates are £40 (full), £30 (concession), £15 (student.
We shall be rehearsing every Monday in March and April except Easter Monday, April 17th.
On the run-up to our May 13th concert we shall rehearse on Monday 8th and Thursday 11th, both at the usual location, Putney High School.
Summer term starts on Monday May 15th. There will be no rehearsal on May 29th (bank holiday) but to make up for it there will be one on Thursday June 1st.
The informal concert and will be on July 3rd, followed by the summer break.
The new term has started. See the Joining page for subscriptions and how to pay.
Rehearsals of Handel's Coronation Anthems are underway. For those wishing to familiarise with the Handel in the interim before hardcopy is available, vocal scores in PDF can be downloaded from here: Zadok the Priest, The King shall rejoice, Let thy hand be strengthened and My heart is inditing.
Learning aids for the Handel, with useful playback facilities for slower/faster tempo and looping selected phrases, are here. Another version, lacking those facilities but using synthesised voices and more closely following our edition, can be found here: Zadok the Priest, The King shall rejoice, Let thy hand be strengthened, My heart is inditing.
The equivalents for Haydn's Mass in Time of War can be found here and here.
On Wednesday 14th December at 6pm we shall be singing carols at East Putney tube station; one hour's singing then a curry. We shall sing more carols on Tuesday 20th at 6.30pm, at The Dukes Head on Lower Richmond Road.
Then it's a break until January 9th when, at our normal venue, we shall start rehearsing the term's new pieces: Handel's Coronation Anthems and Haydn's Mass in the Time of War.
